Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Operator with programming capabilities to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to produce precision components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining techniques, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to write and edit CNC programs. The VMC Operator + Programmer will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols to determine machining requirements.
- Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software (Computer-Aided Manufacturing).
- Select cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures necessary for machining operations.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure proper functioning.
- Monitor machine operations and adjust parameters as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
- Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve any technical issues or discrepancies.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document all production activities, including setup sheets, tooling lists, and inspection reports.
Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in machining is preferred.
- Proven experience as a VMC Operator with proficiency in setting up and operating CNC machines.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, and cutting parameters.
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code.
- Experience with CAM software for programming and simulation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with multi-axis machining and advanced CNC programming techniques.
- Knowledge of machining various materials, including metals, plastics, and composites.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement
methodologies. - Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.)
